The Story Behind Mon Petit Chou Art & Design

Botanical art inspired by the quiet magic of nature — pressed, preserved, and brought to life with heart.

Mon Petit Chou Art & Design was born from a love of flowers, the rhythm of the seasons, and the belief that beauty grows everywhere when we look closely enough. What started as a small creative practice rooted in curiosity has blossomed into a full studio dedicated to preserving botanical moments and transforming them into art that brings nature gently into daily life.

A Seedling of an Idea

Mon Petit Chou began during a season of creative exploration and rediscovery. Surrounded by nature and inspired by the soft beauty of locally grown florals, I found myself preserving petals in books — the same way I did as a child. What started as a simple act of curiosity became a passion for capturing the quiet, fleeting beauty of each bloom.

Soon, petals became paint strokes.
Pressed flowers became stories.
And small compositions grew into whimsical creatures, botanical silhouettes, and coastal scenes that felt alive with personality and charm.

A Botanical Lens on the World

Nature is at the heart of everything I create. The shifting tones of petals, the subtle textures of leaves, the warm quiet of the marsh — these details shape the palettes, forms, and stories in every piece of art. My work celebrates the imperfect magic of natural materials: their colors, their fragility, their resilience, their grace.

Every collection begins with real flowers.
Every design honors their natural form.
And every story is shaped by the land and seasons that inspire it.

Where Tradition Meets Imagination

Pressed-flower art is both timeless and evolving. Each petal is pressed naturally over several weeks, then arranged into scenes that blend realism with imagination. My creative process includes:

  1. Sourcing botanicals from local flower farms and my own garden

  2. Pressing each bloom slowly, naturally, and without chemicals

  3. Reimagining the petals into animals, silhouettes, coastal motifs, or abstract florals

  4. Photographing and digitizing each completed artwork

  5. Transforming the designs into prints, stationery, and surface patterns

This fusion of hand-crafted detail + digital refinement creates art that feels warm, textured, and deeply rooted in place.

Living near the Carolina coast shapes everything — the muted blues, sandy neutrals, warm golden tones, and gentle tidal textures that weave through my work. The  marshes, wildlife, and soft light all whisper their way into my color palettes and compositions.

From pelicans perched on driftwood to botanical silhouettes that mirror the sway of seagrass, each piece pays tribute to this place I love.

Inspired by the Coast

Mon Petit Chou is a small-batch studio — intentionally so. I believe in creating art with care, choosing sustainable materials whenever possible, supporting local growers, and working with printing partners who value quality and environmental stewardship.

Your print is not mass-produced —
it’s part of a slow, intentional creative process that celebrates artistry over volume.

Handmade. Small Batch. Meaningful.

Hi, I’m Vanessa — Artist, Maker, Botanical Collector

I’ve always been drawn to the details: the curve of a petal, the color shift in a dahlia, the tiny veins in a hydrangea leaf. Through Mon Petit Chou, I get to share this love of small wonders with the world.

My background in photography, design, and creative entrepreneurship weaves into my process, giving each piece a blend of artistic intuition and thoughtful craftsmanship.

I’m endlessly inspired by:
• Nature
• Coastal landscapes
• Seasonal color
• Slow, intentional living
• Stories behind each bloom

This studio is where all those passions come together.

A Name Full of Heart

“Mon Petit Chou” is a French term of endearment meaning “my little darling” — a sweet, affectionate nickname used by my Grandmama. For me, it represents the softness, sweetness, and tenderness of both flowers and creativity. It’s a reminder to stay connected to the little things, the moments that matter, and the beauty that grows quietly in the everyday.
